Alfalfa is a legume forage hay that is referred to as the "Queen of Forages". It differs from grass hays such as Western Timothy, Orchard Grass Hay and Brome Hay in leaf, stem and root structure. Because of this difference the protein, calcium and energy content are higher in alfalfa that in grass hasy such as Timothy, Orchard, Oat and Brom hay. Alfalfa Nibbles have a soft stem with the leaves attached. Alfalfa is an outstanding feed for young animals, it contains more crude protein, digestable energy and calcium levels than any other forage. In addition it has the fibre content needed for normal digestive functioning. Alfalfa provides the essential calcium necessary for growing bones. It is also a source of important minerals, including phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, sulphur, iron, zinc and selenium. Alfalfa Hay is a wonderful high fibre food for growing animals. Young growing animals can be offered alfalfa hay on a daily basis in addition to their grass hay. As your pet matures gradually reduce the amount of alfalfa in the diet.
